LUCANIA. Velia. Circa 535-510 BC. Drachm (Silver, 14 mm, 3.90 g). Forepart of a lion to right, devouring prey. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. HN Italy 1259. SNG ANS 1207-8. Williams 23-31. Beautifully toned and of powerful late Archaic style. Struck from somewhat worn dies and with a minor dig on the obverse, otherwise, good very fine.

From the Hestia Collection and from the Däubler Collection (with an early 20th century collector's ticket saying 'Merzbacher 20').
